Most golf leagues I'm familiar with incorporate at least one season long game as their major draw to the league.  This may include a team game or individual point race.

With the popularity and drama of FedEx Cup style point races that we see on many tours around the world, it's no wonder golf leagues include these as part of their offering to members.  Also,  NCAA College Golf tournaments have made an impact on golf leagues as many are incorporating team based competitions to their schedule.  Both of these formats award participation and keeps the tee sheet full most weeks.

Golf leagues are to the golf industry like Bowling leagues are to the bowling industry.  They have single handily saved many facilities from being put out of business.  If it wasn't for the addition of bowling leagues, the sport of bowling would not have survived.

Golf leagues are extremely important to facilities and the main purpose is to create a community atmosphere where the club operators, league managers, and players all leave with smiles on their face.

revenue.  There are many golf facilities that manage up to 3 or 4 leagues with another handful of independent leagues or weekly groups being  hosted at the facility.

For league members, a golf league should be social yet competitive and add an element of game improvement through statistics and handicapping.  Participants like to be treated with respect and deserve a wonderful experience each and every week of the season (break down the average amount of dollars spent per league player and ask yourself if they're receiving that value).  Players of the league are slightly selfish and enjoy personal achievements therefore a season long game that rewards both individual and team is vital...

Q:  Do you use Twitter?
A:  No

Q:  Does your facility use Twitter?
A:  Yes

Q:  How many followers does the facility have?
A:  I don't know, our web guy looks after that.

That is a snapshot of a very common conversation I have with professionals and managers in the golf industry.  The truth is, Twitter and social media is a great way to inform loyal customers, followers and members of what's going on at the club for the month, week, or day.  But, what do you do on those special event days at the club?  Do you make tweets and updates to your fan base?  How cool would it be If you have a person sitting at their desk in their office and feeling as if they were right on the course inside the action.  That's how powerful tweeting and social updating can be...
