Putting with Proper Speed 03/31/2009
Well, well, well, what comes first the chicken or the egg? The two more important areas that I teach when it comes to PuttingZone techniques is Touch (speed control) and Targeting (green reading)... We could have great touch, but if we cannot read a green properly, we won't 3 putt to often but we won't make all that many putts. However, if we have a great ability to read greens and have no touch whatsoever, we will never be consistent putters. So, how do we develop great touch? By achieving a drop speed of 2 revolutions per second. A ball rolling up to hole at 2 revolutions per second will roll over the lip and fall direclty into the middle of the hole. It will not just roll over the lip, that's too soft, it will not bang off the back of the cup, that's too firm. Any time a ball lips out it has been struck with too much force, and that goes from any disctance. Tiger Woods putts the ball with the best touch I've ever seen. When he's spot on with his reads, Tiger becomes unstoppable due to his phenomenal touch. With the techniques in PuttingZone we can make anyone, including Tiger, a better putter. Just think if Tiger could putt better... 25 majors? more like 30. CommentsBill Alexander 04/01/2009 1:51am
