Binbrook ON - The Inaugural Pro/Junior Golf Classic benefiting the Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour was contested on August 18th at Southbrook Golf & Country Club. On the line for the top junior golfer that day was an exemption into a Great Lakes Tour Platinum Event in 2012. The format for the event was a stableford scoring system where one point was awarded for bogey, two points awarded for par, three points awarded for birdie, and four points awarded for eagle. Both the Junior Division and Pro Division had exciting conclusions.
In the Junior Division Brad Hildebrandt from Northridge Golf Club in Brantford and John Majerovich from the host club Southbrook tied at the top with 36 points....

A playoff was needed to decide which player would have the chance to compete alongside the top professionals in the province next year. Hildebrandt, 16, parred the first hole and that was good enough to bump Majerovich,15, into second spot. However, not all was lost for Majerovich as second place receives an exemption into a Great Lakes Tour Regular Series Event for 2012. Both players will gain valuable experience playing alongside some of the provinces best playing professionals and it will truly be exciting days for both of the young competitors.
In the Pro Division, David Moro (Credit Valley GC), Brian McCann (Braeben Academy), David Banks (Within Range), and Colin Murray (Penninsula Lakes) were all in the clubhouse with 40 points. They were all getting ready for a playoff, until Eric Ross (Burlington) blistered the back nine and finished with 41 points.
The event was a success from start to finish and the foundation has been laid for growth going forward. Plans are already being made for the 2012 playing of the Pro/Junior Golf Classic. Keep checking back here for more details as next year's event will certainly grow in strength.
