HHJGT 29th Season
Hamilton ON - It's one of the oldest and most traditional junior golf tours in the province and the Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour (HHJGT) will be celebrating it's 29th season in 2012.  With a deep history and a long list of Champions, the HHJGT will crown an overall winner later this summer.  Chedoke Golf Club (Martin Course) in Hamilton ON, will be host to the annual Qualifying Day tournament on Sunday June 3rd.   It will see approximately 100 hopeful juniors playing for 45-50 spots on the current season Tour.  The overall HHJGT is comprised of 45 plus ties from the qualifier, 15 exempt players from the previous season, 8 bantam golfers, and 8 in a girls division.  The juniors vying for the overall championship are aged 14-18, while the bantam division is boys aged 13 and under.  Last Season Craig Stefureak of Sundrim Golf Club became the youngest overall champion in Tour history and did it without winning any of the seven events....

The Annual Qualifying day has been a great test for all junior golfers over the last 25 seasons.  As the HHJGT entered the early 1990's the day would see up to 140 golfers attempting to get on the Tour.  Past players to play and successfully gain entry were the likes of Brian McCann the current PGA of Canada #1 ranked player, Sean Foley the current swing coach to Tiger Woods, Dan Greenwood, Colin Murray, Ron Kenesky, Jeff Ollinger, Mitch Mahoney, and John Kirkwood.  Most recent player to succeed at a higher level who honed his skills on the HHJGT is current Canadian Amateur Champion MacKenzie Hughes.

The HHJGT has been operating with the same principles and regulations for nearly 30 years.  Though it's become more of a junior development tour in the past few seasons, juniors are still taking experiences from their time on the Tour and applying them at higher levels.  Just last week, current  member John Boncoddo out of Brantford G&CC won the GAO Junior Spring Classic by one stroke to capture his first provincial title.

June 3rd will see a number of junior golfers looking to add their name to an already impressive list of golfers.  One thing that's stood the test of time, is that young golfers who use this Tour to develop their skills and apply them, have gone on to become successful amateurs or professionals at higher levels.  It will be a fun day and in the end the HHJGT for a 29th season will develop a new crop of future golf stars for the Hamilton/Halton region of Ontario.
