The GTNAS already has two spots reserved for the overall champions of the Men's Division and Women's Division. Of course, the winners receive exemptions into the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship and the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship.
We are now pleased to announce that the Mid Amateur Champion and Senior Champion of the GTNAS will earn spots into the 2012 Canadian Mid Amateur Championship and the 2012 Canadian Senior Amateur Championship.
The Mid Amateur Division is probably the most competitive and deepest division in the National Series. Players aged 45 and up are eligible to compete in the division, while players aged 55 and up are eligible to compete in the Senior Division.
Last Season Chris Bernard of Kanata, ON made a dramatic birdie on the final hole of Angus Glen's South Course to fire a two round total of 147. That was good enough to win by one shot over Garry Beattie of Bedford, Nova Scotia. While in the Senior A Division Jack Boldt of Vineland, ON and James Clapp of Victoria, B.C. went to a three hole stroke play playoff. The players were all even playing the final hole, but in the end Jack Boldt took home the Senior title.
Brett MacGillivary of Edmonton, AB punched his ticket into the 2011 Canadian Amateur Championship held in Winnipeg, MB. While Christine Proteau of Port Ablerni, B.C. will be teeing it up in her home province for the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship.
We will continue to monitor the progress of all the players involved and this great news from Golf Canada will continue to make the GTNAS a unique competitive platform for years to come.
