The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour and The Golden Horseshoe Area Golf Tour have both released their 2012 tournament schedules.  With a change to the overall point structure on the Golden Horseshoe Tour, which sees more of a FedEx Cup style point chase, the schedule becomes more interesting.  The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour will embark on their 29th season and sees a great slate of courses for the junior players in the area...

The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour will have their qualifying day on June 3rd and will be hosted by the Chedoke Martin Course in Hamilton ON.  The first full field event is set to go on July 6th at the Granite RIdge Golf Club in Milton ON.  The final event on the schedule will take the Tour to a very familiar golf club in Hamilton.  Glendale Golf and Country Club will host the final banquet and the overall Tour Champion will be crowned August 13th.

Craig Stefurak (Sundrim Golf) was the youngest overall Champion in the 28 year history of the Junior Tour and he's committed to play a full season on this year's edition.  He will be joined in the Junior Division with 15 exempt and 45 qualifiers at the first event in July.  Stefurak has the potential to win the tour more than anyone in history if he consistently plays events over the next 4 seasons.  Former Champions of the Tour include PGA of Canada current #1 ranked player Brian McCann, current tour president Jeff Ollinger, and Dundas Valley Head Golf Professional John Kirkwood.  Former players of the Tour include Tiger Woods swing coach Sean Foley, 2010 PGA of Ontario Champion Ron Kenesky, 2011 Canadian Amateur Champion MacKenzie Hughes, and Spencer Abbott 2012 NCAA Hobey Baker Award Finalist and newly signed Toronto Maple Leaf.  The tour has a long history and has a great depth of young players moving forward.  This season will definitely be one to watch as the big 30th year approaches.

The Golden Horseshoe Area Golf Tour commences on April 30th at the exclusive Greystone Golf Club in Milton ON.  The GHT has incorporated a new point race for the John H. Davis Cup.  The new format sees 6 Regular Season events and 2 Playoff Events.  The top 16 on the Order of Merit will qualify for the Playoffs and the top 8 after Event #7 will be looking to become 2012 John H. Davis Cup Champion.  Looking at the schedule Heron Point Golf Links and Glencairn will be the host Clubs for the new playoff format.   The Pro/Junior Golf Classic will be added to the GHT schedule and will be contested at Southern Pines in Mt. Hope ON.  Of course the Pro/Junior brings together both the Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour and Golden Horseshoe Tours, in a unique team and individual competition.

Some marquee names expected to be members of the GHT this season are former Canadian Tour veteran Eddie Maunder (Deerfield GC), top PGA of Ontario player Reggie Millage (Clublink Academy), 2011 RBC Canadian Open participant Brian Hutton (Southbrook GCC), and defending John H. Davis Cup Champion Alf Callowhill (Clublink Academy).
